The decision to remove your existing teeth and replace them with dentures is not one to be taken lightly. After a comprehensive exam, Dr. Marxen will counsel you regarding your alternatives and the advantages and disadvantages of dentures. If you opt to proceed with dentures, the process will take several visits. There will be one or more visits to make impressions and measurements, to ask questions and voice your concerns and expectations. You may want to provide a picture that was taken when you had a healthy smile.

Your new dentures will be waiting for you when you arrive for the extraction appointment. You will be able to see and examine them before you are sedated. Dr. Marxen will use IV Moderate Conscious Sedation to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. After your teeth have been removed, your new dentures will be placed in your mouth and will act as an oral bandage. You will leave our office with your new teeth. You will return to the office over the next few weeks for follow-up appointments; however, completing the surgery and placing the denture during the same visit does provide a more comfortable denture with fewer adjustments required. Our team will instruct you on how to remove, clean and care for your new dentures.

It will take some time and patience for you to adapt and get comfortable with your new dentures. We will have you return after 3 to 6 months to evaluate the fit of your dentures. It is possible that you may have to have your dentures relined to compensate for any gum shrinkage that may have occurred since your surgery.

You may wish to consider implant supported dentures to have a more secure and stable option.
